A Family Legacy of Needlework
For over thirty years, Enchanting Lair has been woven from a deep love of needlework, colour, and the magic that happens when creativity meets craft. What began as one woman's passion has grown into a family tradition spanning three generations.
Our Story
Enchanting Lair was born from Laura Dickson's lifelong devotion to counted cross stitch and her gift for seeing colour in ways that transform fabric into something extraordinary. From her studio in North Bay, Ontario, she has spent decades hand-dyeing fabrics and designing charts that capture the whimsical, the mythical, and the deeply personal.
Her daughter Amanda Locking carries that creative spirit forward through Treasured Stitches — a collection of designs that reflect her own artistic voice while honouring the tradition her mother built. Together, they have created a body of work that stitchers across Canada and beyond have come to treasure.
Founder & Designer
Laura Dickson
Laura has been stitching since childhood, and her passion for the craft has never wavered. Over the years she has developed a signature approach to hand-dyeing that produces colours unlike anything available commercially — each piece unique, each colourway a small work of art in its own right.
Her design work spans Celtic knotwork, dragons, fairies, mermaids, and the natural world — always with a touch of magic and a deep respect for the stitcher's experience. She believes that a great design should be a joy to stitch, not just beautiful when finished.
Based in North Bay, Ontario, Laura continues to dye, design, and connect with the stitching community through retreats and shows.

Amanda Locking
Amanda grew up surrounded by needlework and inherited her mother's eye for detail and her love of storytelling through design. Her Treasured Stitches collection reflects a personal and heartfelt approach — designs that celebrate life's meaningful moments, from family milestones to quiet everyday joys.
Continuing the family tradition, Laura's granddaughter Petra has joined her grandmother in the art of creating hand-dyed fabrics. Her imaginative approach and creative flair have helped bring several distinctive fabric colours and designs to life.
